 October Team from NBS, Boeing, & General Electric begin IGES development

1980

 January Team publishes IGES 1.0 as a NBS report [NBSIR 80-1978(R)]
 February IGES committee structure established
 May IGES submitted to ANSI Y14.26 subcommttee for approval as standard

1981

 September  IGES 1.0 approved as ANSI standard Y14.26M

1982

 June First public demonstration of geometry among 7 vendor's systems
 July IGES 2.0 approved by IGES committee [NBSIR 82-2631(AF)]
 October IGES subcommittee initiates work on exchanging solids
 December Public demonstration among 6 vendor's systems using geometry, text, and dimensions

 February IGES 2.0 published by NBS
 July Air Force PDDI Program analysis of 10 vendor's implementations of IGES
 August Finite element model exchanged (Westinghouse CAD to ANSYS)
