About the Global Standards and Information Group | | The Global Standards and Information Group provides technical information related to standards and supports Federal agencies and industry by: - Monitoring developments in standards and conformity assessment activities in the Western Hemisphere, the European Union, Central Europe, the Middle East and North Africa Region, and the Asia-Pacific Region.
- Operating the National Center for Standards and Certification Information, which provides research services on standards, technical regulations and conformity-assessment procedures for non-agricultural products, both in the U.S. and foreign countries.
- Conducting Standards in Trade Workshops at NIST on U.S. standards and conformity assessment practices for foreign standards officials in other countries.
- Conducting standards-related policy analyses and compiling information on the U.S. standards and conformity assessment system.
- Participating in interagency activities to establish U.S. government positions on standards-related aspects of major international agreements, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement and WTO Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade.
- Participating in the work of international and regional organizations concerned with standardization and conformity assessment, such the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation.
- Partnering with the Department of Commerce's U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service to place and provide technical support for standards experts at key U.S. embassies and missions to work with government agencies and industry to identify and remove technical barriers to trade.
