Under the National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act, Federal agencies are advised to identify voluntary consensus standards for agency use through such standards information sites as the National Center for Standards and Certification Information (NCSCI) and the NSSN. The National Center for Standards and CertificationInformation (NCSCI) serves as a referral service for information about standardsand standards-related activities in the United States. The collection includesstandards-related information in microform, pamphlets, the Federal Register, periodicals, and reference books. NCSCI also acts as the inquiry point for U.S.obligations under the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on TechnicalBarriers to Trade (TBT Agreement), the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA),and the International Organization for Standardization Information Network (ISONET).
The NSSN provides information on over 100,000 current standards, including document number, title, approval date, price and ordering information. At the present time, users can search for standards and place an order with the organizations that provide the standards. Eventually, users will be able to search for, purchase, and obtain standards in one electronic session.
